Flora & Fauna: Animal Population

Flora & Fauna: Animal Population The Alaskan Arctic is home to a wide variety of plants and animals. For example, the wilderness area of Alaska National Wildlife Refuge in northeastern Alaska, is host to 36 fish species, 36 land mammals, 9 marine mammals, and more than 160 migratory and resident bird species. While some of these animals are year-round residents, others migrate to avoid the harsh conditions of winter. Regardless, all are adapted to the extreme conditions of the north.
